Winter Road - Part One

Congratulations! You've finished the course!

Scott takes a favorite image and works on a new study.

46:53

For the sake of our approach, a "study" includes composing in your desired format (square, horizontal, etc.) and pulls together the whole of prior gathered knowledge on the subject matter (composition notes, value sketches, palette ideas, etc.) plus your gesture paintings.

Your color will be established based on value.

Now try to work this gesture idea from the previous episode towards a study. This stage of your painting will be composed with value structure and color varieties. This, along with drawing, is the essence of painting.

Review your prior assignments to help you decide where you are going to take it towards a study and more of a complete thought in exact placement, value and color decided.  Pull together all your "notes" you've compiled on:

  • Your Intention
  • Composition Studies
  • Value Sketches
  • Color Notes
  • Paint palette ideas
  • Other artists that you've studied
  • Composing
  • Value Plane sketches

Start with a limited palette if you need to.

  • Compiled photographs and notes (including sketches [value, 10 lines, journaling notes and inspiration] and color notes of your scene)
  • Painting Journal
  • Painting Supplies (Oil or Gouache)
