A 4-month deep-dive Adventure of Painting workshop with Scott Christensen
I designed this workshop to help you break through plateaus, build momentum, and paint with confidence and clarity.

After years of teaching and painting, I’ve seen that the biggest breakthroughs often come after the biggest frustrations.
You’re painting often. You’ve taken courses, watched demos, maybe even filled a few sketchbooks, but feel like something still isn’t clicking.
This 4-month workshop is designed to change that.
Inside Accelerating Your Artistic Growth, I’ll help you work through obstacles and give you the structure, repetition, and accountability to move forward with real clarity and momentum.
Over four months together, we’ll dig deep into your process, from finding ideas to refining finished paintings.
*This workshop is available to all Adventure of Painting Continuing Education members! You must first be an AOP Signature Course student ($650, lifetime access) to join the Membership ($25/month or $275/year subscription).
By the end of the workshop, you’ll:
Develop stronger ideas and see them through with confidence
Break through the “stuck” phases that keep you repeating old habits
Understand key AOP concepts - values, light and dark patterns, color, variety in shape and scale, orchestration, and more - on a much deeper level
Build daily and weekly painting habits that actually stick
Finish the workshop with clarity, momentum, and several paintings you’re proud of
You’ll come away with dozens of sketches, 30+ small studies, and 3–5 completed paintings, but more importantly, a process you can rely on every time you paint.

The Accelerating Your Growth workshop is a guided, four-month structure for steady growth
This isn’t a one-week class or a single demo; it’s a guided program designed to help you grow over time.
Each month includes:
Two live Zoom calls – one instructional, one critique
Guided assignments – designed to push your process further
Supporting videos – to help you dive deeper, apply each lesson, and spend time doing the work
Discussion inside the AOP Community – to share work, progress, and questions
All calls are recorded. You’ll have lifetime access to the recordings if you’re part of the full four-month workshop.
MONTH 1
Finding Your Ideas and Intentions
We start with ideas, gathering reference photos, sketching, and identifying what truly interests you about a scene.
You’ll focus on design, drawing, journaling, and intention. Dedicating time to your practice will build momentum that lasts.
MONTH 2
Studies and Developing Your Ideas
You’ll paint - a lot. We’ll work on 30+ small studies for 10 or so of your ideas. Repetition builds skill!
We’ll also talk about palette, key, and shape variation, and start identifying which ideas you think are worth developing into larger works.
MONTH 3
Refining Your Ideas and Moving Them Forward
This is where we’ll work on taking your studies, making decisions, and going larger toward completed works.
You’ll decide which 3–5 paintings to take larger (12–20 inches) and start developing them with focus and purpose. We’ll dive into orchestration, light and dark patterns, and so much more.
MONTH 4
Pushing Further Than You Thought Possible
You think you’re done, but you’re not (and this is where I believe you’ll see the most growth!).
We’ll talk re-keying, re-working paintings, and changing shapes to make your paintings stronger. I’ll help you revisit and refine each piece to pull it all together.

I don’t often do critiques, but I will in this workshop.
You’ll have the opportunity to send in your work for personalized feedback during critique calls.
This is your chance to get direct insight into how I evaluate and push a painting forward—something I rarely offer outside of in-person workshops.

Start with the Adventure of Painting Signature Course - this is your foundation for everything we do in AOP. We’ll be referencing Signature Course videos in this workshop, too.
Once you’re enrolled in the Signature Course, you’ll unlock access to join the Continuing Education Membership and this workshop.

ALREADY A SIGNATURE COURSE STUDENT?
Sign up for the AOP Continuing Education Membership ($25/month) to join us in the workshop. The instructions to join the Continuing Education Membership are in the “Welcome” module of the AOP Signature Course here.
As long as you’re part of the Membership for all four months, you’ll get lifetime access to all workshop replays in your Student Dashboard.

Nope! While joining live is always helpful for real-time feedback and learning, all calls will be recorded and available inside the Continuing Education Community Page while the workshop is happening.
If you’re part of the Continuing Education Membership for all four months of the workshop, you’ll have lifetime access to all of the call recordings in your Student Dashboard (next to the AOP Signature Course), starting in March.

While I’ll primarily be painting and teaching in oil and gouache, the concepts we’ll work through can be applied to acrylic, watercolor, pastels, and more.

A full AOP supply list is available in the AOP Signature Course, and on the AOP Supplies Page of the website here. I share recommendations for brushes and a foundational color palette, as well as a few different notebooks for writing, drawing, and painting.
For this workshop specifically, I recommend brushes that are small enough to paint small studies with (like my AOP Oil Study Set here), as well as a journal for drawing, and a journal for painting.
You’ll also need your computer, tablet, or phone and internet/cell service to watch the videos and join the Zoom calls.

Nope! Painters at every level will benefit from this process. There is always more to learn, and everyone grows through consistency and practice.

Accelerating Your Artistic Growth runs from November 1, 2025 to February 28, 2026 (4 months).

The video modules are online - I’ll be referencing videos in the AOP Signature Course, as well as adding new videos to the Community Page of the Continuing Education Membership to guide you through the assignments.

If you’re not an AOP student yet, you’ll need to enroll in the AOP Signature Course before joining the Continuing Education Membership.
The AOP Signature Course is a one-time $650 payment for lifetime access.
The Continuing Education Membership is a $25/month or $275 year subscription, for ongoing access.
Your total cost for the workshop would be $650 + $100 (4 months of Continuing Education), or $750 total.
If you’re already a Signature Course student, joining the Continuing Education Membership for 4 months ($100) will give you access to this workshop.
If you’re already a Continuing Education member, the cost of the workshop is included in your membership!

The amount of effort you put into this workshop will influence your results. I recommend at least 30 minutes a day of intentional painting time.
Our Zoom calls will be 60 minutes.
What matters most is your willingness to show up, pick up the brush, and do the work.
It's this intentional commitment that builds your skills, trains your eye, and ultimately shapes you as an artist.
